| JANUARY 2010 -- THE ULTIMATE FISHING KAYAK |
The Native Watercraft Ultimate design of kayaks evolved from a focus on the kayak fishing market and some unique new design ideas. The result was the most innovative fishing kayak on the market: a kayak with a tunnel hull for tremendous stability and increased tracking ability combined with the openness and storage of a canoe but a lower profile to make it less sensitive to the wind. Native Watercraft stepped way outside of the box at a period when most other companies were just adding rod holders and anchors to existing kayaks and calling them "angler models." One of the main goals was for the Ultimate to excel in fly-fishing and sight-fishing in shallow water. In order to meet these demands it had to be stable enough for the occupant to stand up and paddle or pole. If you are sitting down in clear water you are missing a whole other world only visible from a higher vantage point. Standing also allows you a much wider range of motion to ease casting. You will see from this video all the many features of the Ultimate that makes it the "ultimate fishing craft" and while that might have been the primary goal and the focus of this video, it is not the extent of what the Ultimate is good for. We are pleased to have produced such a great kayak for fishing, paddling and other activities on the water like bird watching, overnight trips and photography.
